| I'd like to take
you along on this flight from Stuttgart to Agadir. Enjoy the marvellous sights of the
Pyrenees, bathin' in the bright spring sun, of ! Note:
Due to the weather being quite different on such long flights, the pictures of two flight
have been combined (see date top right) to give a better impression. Crew members may
differ within the "picture voyage". |
 |
After a relaxed briefing,
aircraft preparation and an ontime departure in Stuttgart, we have been climbing towards
Geneva, and crossed southern France from Lyon to the Pyrenees. Right now we are slightly
south of Toulouse, the town where our Airbus A310 D-AHLW was "born" in 1989. We
are heading towards the waypoint SOVAR between Toulouse and Zaragoza. |
 |
Approaching the Pyrenees from
the region of Lourdes in southern France. |
 |
The highest peaks in the
chain, Monte Perdido with 3355m and Pico de Aneta with 3404m, are "head on"
with many of the Alps' peaks! |
 |
A beautiful view |
 |
The southern ridge of the
Pyrenees,. |
 |
A workplace with a view... |
 |
A small rotor cloud over a
valley. |
 |
Even "el
commandante" is happy about the privileges of this job. |
 |
A last view "over the
shoulder" towards the spanish coastline and the Bay of Biscayne/Golfe de Gascogne. |
 |
Attack! Bon appetit :-) |
 |
Our purserette collects the
breakfast, or to be correct, its remains. |
 |
Abeam Pamplona, enroute
towards the waypoint NASOS southeast of Madrid. |
 |
Interesting view of the
instrument panel... |
 |
...showing "all
normal". |
 |
"Unusual attitude
photography"... |
 |
Approach towards Agadir. The
surrounding mountains, part of the "High Atlas" mountain range, are quite
impressive (Jebel Toubkal some kilometers to our left side is 4165m high)! So our altitude
at this point northeast of Agadir is still FL130. |
 |
Look direction
north-northwest, towards Essaouira. |
 |
The last hurdle, and then a
steep descent towards Agadir begins, onto the DME arc that leads us towards the ILS28. |
 |
The view out of the captains
left front side into the valley of the Sous river, and if you turn your head backwards,... |
 |
...you'll get this view
towards the south-southeast, and if you turn it even more... |
 |
...you'll get to see this. :-) |
 |
Our crew during the stop at
Agadir. |
 |
For once we had enough time to
drink a "mocca" in the airport restaurant and to quickly take a crew picture,
before the first bus with the passengers arrived (it's in fact already about 50 meters
from our stairs). |
 |
Climbout from runway 28
towards the west. A nice view on the righthand side towards the city of Agadir and the
king's estates (golf courses and chateau are somewhere down there -the reason why we are
not allowed to turn north before we have overflown the coastline). |
 |
After a right turn we are
northbound, another view over the city... |
 |
...and the harbor of Agadir. |
 |
The new (right part of picture
and above picture centerline) and the old (left below) airport of Agadir, the latter now
the king's private airport (as far as I know). |
 |
Climbing out towards
Essaouira, overflying the cape in the region of Zaouit Sidi Brahim ou Ali. |
 |
Overtaking a B737-800... |
 |
...one of our favourite
sports... |
 |
...there she goes. Byebye! |
 |
Passing the Strait of
Gibraltar, view to the east. On the right side, you see the the city of Tanger with the
airport, above is a clearly visible cloud bank spreading from above Ceuta (left end of
cloud bank) towards Tetouan (under the far right cloud). The you see the Strait itself,
and just to its left on the Spanish side, the white city of Tarifa pointing into the
Strait. |
 |
A minute later, you can
clearly see Tarifa (right of photo center) with its most famous surfing beaches, and the
Bay of Gibraltar (mid left)... |
 |
...with the cities of
Algeciras (bottom right, Spain) and Gibraltar (top right, Great Britain) with its distinct
426m high rock and the airport just to its left side. The border between Gibraltar and
Spain runs just north of the airport, so left of the runway, you can already see the
Spanish city of La Linea. |
 |
An interesting digging zone
north of Madrid. |
 |
We are already back over the
central european alps. An A320 of LTU approaches from the right side on his airway from
the region of St. Tropez towards Luxembourg... |
 |
...and crosses our path safely
underneath. Just 40 minutes to touchdown! Time to get an actual weather for our
destination, pull out the approach charts, give a briefing, and start the descent! I hope
you enjoyed the ride with us! |
