My hobbies
Sailing I have been fascinated by sailing all my life. Like flying, it mingles weather, technical aspects and skills (weather knowledge, technique) in a fantastic way, and whilst doing it, you either go places and have the opportunity to see other harbours, enjoy other food, people and styles, or you go sailing for the fun of it, and "fight the machine", for example if you are riding a smaller Laser class boat in strong winds. Then sailing becomes a real sport, and fun goes beyond the scope of the scale.
I have been a freelance sailing instructor for several years during my university studies, enjoying the teaching and the idea of transferring to other people something you know, and others would like to know also. I loved training people with completely different ideas and different ways of learning (the audiovisual types, the "learning-by-doing" types, the technical abstract guys). And I really appreciated the team of the school, HOZ Hochseezentrum.
Inline Skating and Hockey
Inline skating was an all-time favorite with me, as we already played inline hockey at the age of six, mainly fighting "family internal" fights on a concrete place nearby our home. I sticked to this sport, even if I don't play it regularly or "organisational".
Music Music - although I didn't put in on top - is about the most important thing in my life. People who live around me will confirm the fact that if there's no music in my office, I'm either not here, dead, or something really serious happened (like learning for a check :-)). All the other times, music tootles through the room, and I have to really force menot to turn on the radio. My all-time favourite is smoothjazz.com, "elevator music" as I call it, as it sound like the music you always hear in shopping malls - smooth, easy, and not disturbing. And if the webradio is not available, I'm sticking to my CD's.
And then there's the urge to play music by myself. I have been taking piano lessons for more than ten years, and enjoyed drumming lessons for nearly two years. I have no drums set of my own, so I neglected this part quite a bit during the past few years. But whenever I'm at my parents' home, I have to play the piano. It's fun, and I love it.
Railways You might already have read part 1 of my bio, and the part about my "thing" with railways. Amazingly, railways have attracted me more than aviation during my primary school and first high school years, as I didn't have any contact to aviation when my dad suspended his license because it took him too much time as a hobby.
Railways have so many interesting facets, especially in a country like Switzerland, where you look at all those railway lines going through river gorges, crawling up the steepest mountains, and doing all-year service through glacier parks and eternal snow -you might be asking if the engineers at the end of the 19th century were crazy when they laid these tracks. If you don't believe that this might be attractive and fascinating, try a trip in the world famous Glacier Express or Bernina Express trains of the Rhaetian Railways and you'll see for yourself.
Photography Taking pictures was a long-time favourite of mine, and my family will always remember how many pictures I brought back from my holiday trips to Canada, for example. The evenings of a whole winter are not enough time to enjoy all these pics. Well, and as my dear Minolta Dynax 7xi broke down recently, the never ending stream of pictures has been interrupted. The world has been waiting for the moment when I finally could raise the money to buy myself a digicam - god bless us, and then the whole story started over again - now in digital. I bought myself a Nikon D70 Digital Cam. And since, my gallery is exploding... :-)
